Allowing children to understand and become confident in their individual learning styles is core to Harriet House’s approach to Early Years learning. In Reception we deliver the Early Years Foundation stage within the Montessori setting, covering all areas of the curriculum including literacy, numeracy and creative arts.
All teaching focuses on learning through play. Our excellent teacher child ratio enables flexibility so children can develop according to their individual needs and teaching can be undertaken as a whole class, small groups and individually.
The Reception class is structured to provide varied learning that motivates and inspires the children. Location-Led Outdoor Learning is core to the school’s approach, with gardening and woodland activities bringing numeracy and science topics to life. The excellent Read, Write Inc. Phonics programme has been introduced to accelerate literacy development. Termly outings bring learning to life and all the children enjoy weekly music and drama as well as team sports, Judo, Dance & Swimming classes.
Studies show that Montessori-educated children are more independent, creative and socially adept and regularly out-perform traditionally educated children.
